Choosing to Partake

BIBLICAL POINT OF REFERENCE:

"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do."

~Colossians 3:12-13

My dad told me a story that happened this past weekend while he was giving out Communion at Mass: A lady came up to him holding the Consecrated Body of Jesus, and said that someone had just left it on a pew! Someone left Jesus just lying in a pew! As astounded as I am that someone would do that, it did get me thinking about what the Consecrated Host means, and what it means when we accept it. When we line up for Communion at Mass and say "Amen" to the Body and/or Blood of Jesus Christ, we are choosing to receive our Lord; we are accepting the Lord into our own bodies and into our own blood. This is something so powerful, because God is not forcing us to consume of Him, rather he is allowing us to decide for ourselves. So are you going to choose to accept the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ?

I'm not done yet - I have a further consideration for you all. Choosing to accept Jesus into our bodies is only the first step - partaking of His holiness is the next. What I mean by this is that we are choosing to join in on what God wants for us; we are saying a big "Yes!" to God Almighty and His saving grace. So when we choose the Body and Blood of Christ, we aren't just choosing to have Him enter us - we are choosing to partake in His greater glory. We are choosing to believe in His Word, practice His teachings, and share His love with everyone. Whoever left Jesus in the pew probably didn't know what they were doing. Maybe they had never been to Mass before and didn't know what to do with a Consecrated Host. Or maybe they were confused as to why they should choose to consume Jesus Christ. Whatever the case was, that person, and everyone who does not partake in our Lord during Communion, is missing out on God's calling for us. So what are you going to choose? Will you choose to accept the Consecrated Body and Blood, or will you choose to also partake of it? That is my challenge for you ladies today. Choose to partake of our Lord and His gracious mercy. Your Laughing Sister, Callahan
