Something to Sacrifice

BIBLICAL POINT OF REFERENCE:

"Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind."

~Hebrews 13:16

If you are ever faced with the challenge to come up with a good sacrifice (maybe it's for Lent, maybe it's for a friend), think about what you really don't like in life. You've probably never heard of that technique before - usually, people tell you to think of what you love, because when you give it up, you miss it. However, in telling you to think of what you don't like, God may just nudge you in the right direction of sacrifice. Let me give you an example: I once heard a story about a girl who couldn't stand herself without makeup on. No matter what, she had to put some makeup on everyday to feel good about herself. But when she thought about how she hated not having makeup on, she realized what God was asking her to sacrifice, and she found that by sacrificing her makeup everyday, she had learned to love herself without all the painted-on colors and touched up glamour. The strength in sacrifice is undeniable, and God sees our personal struggles with it; it is so difficult to give up something that God has so lovingly blessed us with. But think about who you can offer that sacrifice up for, or what you can offer that sacrifice for, and I promise that it will be worth it. So that is my challenge for you ladies today: find something you don't like, sacrifice, and find your worth in God. Your Laughing Sister, Callahan
