The Dos and Don'ts of Appropriate Mass Attire

BIBLICAL POINT OF REFERENCE:
"Similarly, [too,] women should adorn themselves with proper conduct, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hairstyles and gold ornaments, or pearls, or expensive clothes, but rather, as befits women who profess reverence for God, with good deeds."
~1 Timothy 2:9-10
I've noticed the way girls of all ages dress for Mass. As girls, it kind of comes with the territory; we see an outfit we like, we try to imitate it. We see an outfit we don't like, we don't try to imitate it. But the point I really want to hit in my article today are the dos and don'ts of Mass attire for girls. I think it is necessary to go over what should and should not be worn at Mass, so here we go: DO: Wear a dress or a skirt! They're pretty and fun and they make us feel beautiful! DON'T: Wear a skirt or dress that shows too much cleavage, is too short, or is too tight. I know society today tells us that we should dress like that because it is more impressive and sexy, but seriously ladies, we need to step up the class! I often see so many tight pencil skirts and low V-neck dresses on girls at church, and that's not how we should be dressing in front of God. DO: Wear fun-colored shirts and blouses with pretty designs. DON'T: Wear any sort of crop top or low-cut shirt or blouse. I would even stretch that further to not wearing spaghetti straps as well unless you have a sweater or jacket covering it up. Just this weekend I saw a girl who wore a crop top to Mass and had a bare midriff showing. I'm sorry, but that's really not respectable to God or to yourself. DO: Wear pants and capris (maybe not so much in the summer). DON'T: Wear shorts or leggings. Some shorts really aren't that short, but most are too short for Mass, so if you don't want to wear a skirt or a dress one weekend, just stick with pants and capris. When it comes to leggings, I have the mindset of not wearing them out of the house in general; they are very skin tight, and they're not pants. So really stay away from leggings when it comes to appropriate Mass attire. Note: There is of course the question as to whether jeans and rompers are or are not appropriate for Mass. In my opinion, jeans really aren't that bad as long as they are a nicer denim, aren't too tight, and don't have any rips in them. I'm a firm believer in dressing casual things up, because I love jeans and I think they are the most comfortable things to wear, and given nice shoes and accessories, they look good. However, if you want to be safe, just wear dress pants or dress capris, because those are definitely appropriate. As for rompers, I'm not a big fan of them when it comes to Mass attire, because they are just as short as regular shorts, but I have seen some longer rompers worn to church that look nice. Bottom line ladies: use caution when you are dressing for our Lord. Be respectful and appropriate, and if you have to question whether something is or isn't nice for church, it probably isn't.
