Treat God Like the King He Is

BIBLICAL POINT OF REFERENCE:

"The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard 'delay,' but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."

~2 Peter 3:9

What are the things that make you laugh? My sister Grace is really funny, and my mom and I always share a good laugh together. Heck, I'd like to think that my own jokes are pretty funny since they make me laugh, but that's probably not the case.

What are the things that make you cry? I cry when I've done something really wrong and I don't know how to fix it - or when I'm hungry and tired. If I'm laughing way too hard I'll probably cry too.

What are things that make you think hard? Whenever I hear something that really inspires me, I'll think really hard and long about it. I'll also probably search for it and stuff like it on Pinterest, since that's my go-to website for deep thinking.

What are the things that you take for granted? Please refer to my articles "50 Ways to Give Thanks" and "50 More Ways to Give Thanks" for a full list of things I take completely for granted.

What are the things God is calling you to work on that you haven't worked on?

Up until that last question, everything I had mentioned was about things. Not necessarily material things; just things. But that last question poses a different conclusion: God is not a thing. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And I have just realized that I haven't been treating God like He is the Way, the Truth, or the Life: I've been treating Him like a thing that I just do, or a thing that I just talk to, or a thing that I just can't comprehend completely.

Isn't that sad? For all my love and faith in the Lord, I haven't given Him proper recognition. I've scaled His significance down to a thing. Only a couple nights ago I told myself that things happen and things can be solved, because in the end that's all they are: things. Now, maybe that's a good philosophy for letting go of anger or solving problems on a day-to-day basis, but it's a rather horrible way to look at our Savior. Because He's not just a thing: He's my family. Would I call my sisters things? Would I call my parents things? Absolutely not, and it shouldn't be any different with God.

So we've all talked a little bit about New Years resolutions, but here's a new one: Treat God like the King He is. He's not a thing, He's not even a person you just push aside. He's God. He's Love. He's Everlasting Life. He's Forever.

Your Laughing Sister,

Callahan
