Swords and Arrows

BIBLICAL POINT OF REFERENCE:

"Hear me, O coastlands, listen, O distant peoples. The LORD called me from birth, from my mother’s womb he gave me my name. He made of me a sharp-edged sword and concealed me in the shadow of his arm. He made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me. You are my servant, he said to me, Israel, through whom I show my glory."

~Isaiah 49:1-3

I have found inspiration in today's first reading from Isaiah; the big thing I noticed is that God describes us as "sharp-edged" swords, yet He also conceals us in "the shadow of his arm". Then again, Isaiah writes that the Lord makes us "polished" arrows, and but hides us "in his quiver". What is the meaning of this? I'm choosing to interpret it this way: the Lord makes us strong, like swords and arrows, through which He shows His glory. Our role in life is to be a servant of the Lord, tough and fierce for all of His works and people. But what is amazing is that at the same time, God allows us to be protected by Him! He doesn't throw us into the fire without aid from Him--He conceals us in the shadow of His arm and hides us in His own quiver.

This is a constant reminder to trust in God; sometimes we discover this in daily Bible readings (like I did this morning), sometimes through our friends and family, and sometimes God shows us Himself. My challenge for you ladies is to see that continuous and shining love wherever you go and to thank God for it. We know he will offer us protection from the storm and pull us out of the deep waters if we ask. We need only be swords and arrows for the Lord!
