This is why God should be in control.

BIBLICAL POINT OF REFERENCE:

"When I caught sight of him, I fell down at his feet as though dead. He touched me with his right hand and said, 'Do not be afraid. I am the first and the last, the one who lives. Once I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. I hold the keys to death and the netherworld. Write down, therefore, what you have seen, and what is happening, and what will happen afterwards.'"

~Revelation 1:17-19

If you look closely at the people around you, you might think about how you aren’t in control of them. You aren’t in control of what they say, how they say it, what they do, what they spend their time and money on, what they eat or drink, what they belief, or how they think. I’ll say it again: you are not in control of them.

Now think about what you are in control of: you’re in control of what you say, how you say it, what you do, what you spend your time and money on, what you eat or drink, what you believe, and how you think. That’s what you are in control of.

Control isn’t easy. It demands responsibility, patience, understanding, wisdom, and impeccable communication to remain in our grasps. It needs to feed off of our inspiration and motivation to stay alive as a deep want or desire. And oftentimes, we let that deep want or desire get the better of us. We let the control we so desperately crave get the better of us, and I can’t think of one time that that was a good thing.

You see, every time I have tried to take control of my life and tell myself that I am in charge, I pretty much end up feeling more anxious and unhappy than before. It’s almost as if all the control is too much, ya know? And that is so unnecessary when we have a God who will ease that pain if we simply ask Him to.

How desperate do we need to become before we realize that what we are searching for is not the control everyone else seems to worry about, but the God who gives us that freedom? How self-righteous do we have to become before we understand that God is the Way, the Truth, and the Life?

If I don’t control something, life will go on. Life will continue to be life and I will continue to search for something that isn’t realistic. And when we search for something like that, we usually turn up empty handed.

We are in control of relatively few things on earth: let’s not let those things blind us to the One who created all.
